Pioneer's
Agape Camp Program for Youth and Adults with Developmental
Disabilities
At Pioneer we strive
to "show the
face of Jesus" and no where is there a better
example of that than in our Agape Camp Program.
The program incorporates all the great activities
and fun of summer camping and makes them accessible
to all.

 |
| This
week of camp is a great time to make new friends
or visit with old ones. Some of the activities that
are available include music, games, Bible studies,
boating, swimming, arts and crafts, cookouts, campfires,
and much more. Participate in theme days, an offsite
bowling trip and our own Special Olympics. Pioneer
has nursing staff onsite at all times to administer
medications and to care for the health of campers
while they are here. Our cabins, dining hall, and
meeting halls are handicapped accessible. Agape Camps
run from Monday afternoon until Friday morning beginning
June 9, 2008 and running through August 15, 2008.

The
Papyrus Camp Program for foster youth and teens. Papyrus
is the opportunity of a lifetime for many foster
children to enjoy a week of camp, building positive
memories in a safe and loving environment with
all that camp has to offer including: hiking, swimming,
crafts, and singing around a campfire. In addition
to the many and varied activities children and
youth will have special group times dealing with
self-esteem, anger management, making healthy lifestyle
choices, building social skills, team building, and
problem-solving.
Papyrus is a program initiative
of Pioneer Camp and Retreat Center to reach out
to those in the foster care system. It is a faith-based,
fun-filled summer camp with a twist—valuable
sessions to assist the foster child with issues
like anger management, self-esteem, building
social skills and hope for the future. Papyrus
has a specially trained staff and a higher ratio
of staff to campers for the safety and well-being
of the camper. |
At
Pioneer, we view papyrus as a symbol of the basic
necessities of life that many of today's
youth have been denied. It also represents the
basic functions of foster care. In fact it was
papyrus that helped save one of the Bible's
most famous foster children, Moses. In the book
of Exodus we read of Moses' Hebrew mother
who made him a basket or "ark" from
the papyrus reed and floated him down the river
to his new Egyptian foster mother in order to save
his life. Pioneer is proud to introduce Papyrus
as a program which provides the basic necessities
of life along with faith-filled fellowship and
personal growth in a safe and joy-filled environment.
